VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) - A realistic training class for students wanting to become arson investigators.
Scott Township firefighters deliberately set parts of this vacant home on fire and then quickly put it out.
Students will investigate the fire and determine the cause on Saturday morning.
"On the job training in the fire service is how we used to do it years and years ago," firefighter Thomas Fritz said. "But, we found that injured and, in some cases killed fire fighters. And that's not the idea. That's not what we are here to do. We're here to do it safely and this teaches us. This teaches the new recruits and the new guys how to conduct themselves in live fire scenes."
Saturday morning's exercise will complete the training for the arson investigator students.
