Owensboro preacher found guilty on rape charges

Posted: Updated:

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) - A jury finds a former Owensboro preacher guilty of raping a young church member more than 25 years ago.

The commonwealth attorney says the same jury that convicted him recommended 77-year-old Prince Wilbert Woolfolk spend 20 years in prison.

According to published reports, the 17-year-old's family didn't come forward earlier because they were prohibited from questioning a preacher under church rules.

After the indictment, Woolfolk resigned from the Seventh Street Church of God in Christ in Owensboro and the Branch Street of God in Madisonville.

He'll be sentenced in March.
