JASPER, IN (AP) - A train that will ferry southern Indiana tourists in restored antique passenger cars will make its first trip next week.

The Spirit of Jasper excursion train will make its first 25-mile trip from Jasper to French Lick on May 8.

Kristen Ruhe of the Dubois County tourism commission says it will make the trip at least a couple times a month through September.

Shorter dinner trip rides will also be made from Jasper's replica early 1900s train depot.

Passengers will ride aboard three refurbished, mid-20th century train cars pulled by a diesel engine.

Ruhe says the visitors center has received many calls about the excursions and that few tourist trains travel between destinations.
