NORTONVILLE, KY (WFIE) - The city council of Nortonville and city attorney John Whitfield have decided to turn down an open records request made by the Hopkins County attorney.

Earlier this week, Hopkins County Attorney Todd P'Pool  announced his intent to launch a formal inquiry into the financial operations of the City of Nortonville and its day-to-day operations over the last five years.

According to documents released to 14 News on Thursday, the Kentucky State Police have been investigating the same things P'Pool planned since April of 2010.

The council said that releasing the documents right now would jeopardize the existing investigation by the KSP.

Tonight on 14 News at 5:00, reporter Cory Stark will show you what this means for Nortonville.
