Nathan Ryder joined WFIE 14-News as a reporter and anchor in September 2008 after moving more than 1500 miles from his home state of Arizona. Born and raised in the Phoenix area, Nathan studied journalism at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. Following college and several internships, Nathan got his start behind the scenes working in TV production.
After spending several years behind the camera, Nathan stepped in front of the lens as a weekend reporter at KNAZ-TV in the mountain town of Flagstaff, AZ. He later took on the duties of weekday reporter, main anchor, managing editor and served as the Northern Arizona bureau reporter for KPNX-TV in Phoenix.
He's no stranger to covering severe weather and natural disasters, spending a lot of time on the fire lines covering devastating wildfires that burn across Arizona each year. Nathan also made several trips to Colorado City covering accused polygamist leader Warren Jeffs and his community of followers. Before moving, he spent a lot of time following Arizona Senator and Republican presidential candidate John McCain in his travels to and from his home in the Sedona area.
The charm, friendliness and long growing season helped draw Nathan to move to the Midwest. In his spare time he can be found in the yard gardening with his fiance. He always has a stack of magazines and books to read and also enjoys home-brewing in his spare time.
